Florence McEachran Garber |
|
Mrs. Garber, daughter of Wm. L. and Lilian McEachran, was born in Spokane where she died on September 4, 2005. She graduated from Lewis & Clark High School and from Washington State College where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. In 1937, she became the home economics teacher at Reardan High School, and met local resident Glen Garber. They were married in 1940, and resided on the Garber farm near Reardan until Glen’s death in 1999. After they retired, they enjoyed spending winters in Mesa, Arizona, where they made many new friends from all over the country. In recent years, she moved to Waterford on South Hill in Spokane. Florence was a member and long time trustee and elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Reardan, and a member of Spring Creek Grange since 1937. She was a 4-H leader in Lincoln County, and a judge of 4-H exhibits and contests in Lincoln and Adams Counties for many years. She was an enthusiastic and loyal alumna of WSU. Her interests included church leadership, bridge, sewing, and WSU football. Survivors include her children and their spouses: her son Steve Garber and wife Peggy, Seattle; two daughters Nancy William and husband Ray, Corvallis, and Linda Nihoul and husband Tom, Spokane Valley; six grandchildren: David Garber, Laurie Garber, Brian William, Kamala Gillespie, Erica Stephens, and Jill Nihoul; six great grandchildren: Adrian, Nathaniel, Owen, Steffen, Andrew and Alex; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Glen Garber, her husband of 58 years, and by her sister and two brothers and their spouses. She was the last of her generation of the McEachran family. She so valued, and will be greatly missed by, her extended family, the Reardan and Spokane communities and her friends everywhere. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Reardan, or to the Lincoln County 4-H Leaders Council. Strate Funeral Home, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. |
