Art Lantern R #2 - The original house was an old hunting and fishing cabin that had been built before there were any roads on the east side of Lake Washington.  Back then, the property was only accessible by boat or horseback.   The cabin had no 2x4s in its walls.  Its wood planks were staggered inside and out to lap the seams between the boards.  There was no insulation, but the cabin was warm and snug because the roof extended all the way to the ground on the cold north side.  Art Lantern L

Inside there were lots of those old art glass, lantern style lights and a huge river rock fireplace, blackened from years of smoke.  A wide veranda porch extended across the whole front, providing cool, shaded seating on warm summer days.  The old glass windows rippled with age and could all open to allow the flow of fresh air.  Over many years the cabin had grown like Topsy: a back porch was added and later enclosed into a bedroom, a basement was dug and a forced air furnace installed.  But the forest of evergreen trees and the expance of once lake bottom land turned into lawn were the greatest attributes of the place.
